Early Moments Matter

Caring, supportive parents and caregivers have the power to create a successful future for every child. Yet studies show that as many as 30% of all children develop insecure attachments with their parents.

Early Moments Matter was designed to provide parents and caregivers information and activities that encourage healthy, two-way relationships with infants and young children. We want every child to have the best possible chance at emotional well-being, and our campaign is assisting parents to develop secure attachments with their children. Available in English and Spanish, Early Moments Matter’s 65-page handbook and 30-minute film allows you to:

  • Learn about the importance of early attachment to your child’s development
  • Read about how to respond to your baby’s non-verbal cues
  • Learn ways to play and laugh with your child
  • Get self-help tips for taking care of yourself and your relationship with your partner

This research-based and expert vetted, multimedia resource is now in distribution through hospitals, community centers and organizations around the country. Early Head Start purchased more than 26,000 to distribute in its centers in the summer of 2010, and in 2011, we will continue our distribution to families in need.

Studies show that as many as 30% of all children develop insecure attachments with their parents.
This Emotional Life shines a special spotlight on the importance of attachment, revealing the science behind these early relationships and demonstrating what can happen when they don’t develop. Created by leading childhood development experts and featuring an information-packed, 65-page handbook and 30-minute film, This Emotional Life’s exclusive toolkit, Early Moments Matter, is designed to help parents and caregivers learn what attachment is, why it is important and how they can go about building secure attachments with their children.
